Pleasantly Surprised...

A couple of weekends ago, in Orlando, in an effort to relax, escape the Florida heat and kill time before heading to the airport, Jims and I decided to see a movie. Hoping to see 'Thank You For Smoking' we call and realize that the only movie our time budget will allow is 'Ice Age 2: The Meltdown' and we are going to be 10 minutes late. I am not thrilled. Having boycotted the first 'Ice Age' movie because Ray Ramano and John Leguizamo's voices are like nails on a chalkboard, I was extremely reluctant. Also, it has been my belief that movies should be more than just mindless droning to an audience of kindergardeners and their parents. Movies should have a soul, touch people and evoke emotions, be thought provoking, have deep philosophical meaning and/or subtitles. I no longer feel that way.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I laughed, how involved I became and how great it feels to be five years old watching cartoons. Although animated, I found myself identifying with them and being a cheerleader for their aspirations and goals. Plus, my ears didn't bleed when the characters spoke.

Other movies that I saw where I went in a skeptic and came out a beleiver:
40-year-old Virgin
Wedding Crashers
Super Troopers
The Incredibles

I am no longer an uptight movie snob. Thank you Pixar!
